window treatments for a 4000 sq ft. house?

eliz asked:

i have NO idea how to estimate..the house is 6 bedrooms plus a loft…plenty of windows…what is a rough, ballpark estimate for covering the windows? we don’t want those cheap aluminum blinds, but other wider blinds, plantation shutters or drapes would be ok. thx

You can spend anywhere between $50 and $300 per window…depending on what you want.

Really your best bet is to check with a window treatment expert and see their variety of materials / options and get estimates.

We have the same about 4400sqft and spent $15,000 !! Hand tailored white linen draperies……(FYI)

It also depends on if you go with custom or ready-made. I would take some time and go through a site like Smith and Noble which will give you an idea on custom. You wil need the measurements of your windows.

With the measurements you can also go into a store and check out their in stock shades or blinds to get an idea of what your cost will be.

For custom made:
About $400 -$500 a window for wood blinds
About $500 - $700 a window for drapes
About $800 or more for plantation shutters

Cut those price to about 1/4 for ready made in a decent quality.

These are all very rough estimates, but they will put you in the ballpark.
