Window Decorations?
Dante asked:
OK, so I just moved into my new place. It’s a recently built home so it’s pretty much a blank slate (white walls, wood floors). My girlfriend has picked out all of the furniture and carpets. Somehow she left me to decide on what window treatments to use. I just want something practical, beautiful, and timeless. So I’m looking for some pointers from design experts out there…

What window treatments should I use? Blinds? Shades? Curtains? Panels?
Who should I check out?
Thank you!

First decide what your needs are. Do you need privacy? In what rooms do you want a lot of light - or not so much light?
You don’t have to put the same window treatment in everyroom. If you want blinds in the bedroom and panels in the living room just go for it. But be certain that the colors you pick will go with the furniture and carpets.

Bamboo shades or wood blinds. The wood blinds allow for more lighting options and come in tons of colors-cream, tan, white, dark brown, light brown-the list goes on and on.

I like wood or faux-wood blinds as the privacy factor….
Then dress each room with different treatments over that– you can use valances, sheers, or just about anything on a rod to change the look of each room for its own personality…..
and this way, from the outside, you have a consistent look & from the inside, each room has its own “personality”

can’t answer until I know what style of furniture that you have. Are there sliders or just windows? How about Light? do we need to address privacy? or just make it harder to see in? Can’t answer anything until I know.

Hey buddy,
White walls and wood floors leave the options pretty much open. But since you’re looking for something timeless that matches well, you might want to go with wood window treatments. I’d suggest wood blinds since it sounds like a relatively new place, just be sure you choose a matching or at least complimentary style to the furniture…and be sure your gf is cool with it.
You might want to check out the Smith and Noble web site. They have a lot of choices and a timeless look to their window treatments.
