why are window drapes and shades so expensive?

I checked companies in orange county california as well as websites like smith and noble, the shade store and even went to 3 day blinds and jc penney - drapes are almost $1000 and roman shades are $300 each!

Go to Fabrics.com, and make them yourself. You will find the materials and patterns at very affordable prices, including free or reduced shipping.
I made all mine for under $200

Because people will pay anything to avoid attempting to do it themselves.
Try your own window coverings…you will find a lot in interesting ideas online and at the library.
For example…You can use sheets as curtains, very easy to hang by making a small slit in the hem side and gathering them on a rod of your choice.
You can even make a cornice board out of foamboard (or stiff cardboard), cover it with fabric, hang with L-brackets and hang coordinating sheers underneath.
If you don’t sew, there is iron on tape, glue guns and even Duct tape!!!!
Have fun with it…your own Custom stuff…don’t pay big $$
