what are my best options for changing from vertical blinds to some kind of a panel or curtain?

R.O asked:

I need the option of sliding them over from the left to right because I use the sliding window to have access to my yard and laundry room. I live in a condo and I dont want something that would hurt the lighting in the living room area.

You have so many options. How about a silk panel on sliding hooks. Depending upon your decorating scheme, you could select a rough weave lined panel with sliding rings on a round wood rod or a draw drape with hooks and clips on a draw rod. Today’s “look” is casual, with the window treatment stacking on the right side and puddling on the floor.
Check out the looks at the JCPenney site, for instance. It’ll give you lots of ideas.

if you like the privacy afforded by blinds and also their ability to be opened wide, then a good compromise between vertical blinds and drapes might be roman blinds. they are simple and easy to open and close and come in a great variety of colors, textures, and fabrics. bamboo, canvas, linen, ricepaper, etc.
they give complete privacy when wanted and open wide to let in the light and allow easy access for you. i had vertical blinds in front of my french doors at one time….they were constantly getting twisted and jammed up.

Well you can just have a normal curtain made up as one (1) piece. You can put cord drawn tracks on and move the cord when you want to slide them across.

You can do Panel Drapes, which is basically like a huge vertical but is made out of fabric.

You also have the option of using Timber Shutter Blinds.

Best thing is to go into your local curtain shop and see what options they have available.
