Should a rental come with basic window coverings?
Bumblebee asked:
Just wondering, our new rental home had no window coverings, no privacy etc. So we bought mini-blinds for all the windows that had to be custom cut. It was about 200$. Should we give the owners a chance to purchase them at the end of the lease or remove them if not?

I don’t like paying for other peoples comfort when I feel it is not my responsibility. I wanted them though so I bought them for myself with no complaints.

Many rentals come completely unfurnished. It depends upon the landlord. You get to remove the window coverings when you leave.
I have a rental and installed new mini blinds. You have a cheap landlord!

if you want that to keep with you. Then don’t ask them. But if you don’t want that, then ask them if they want that.

I wouldn’t hesitate to mention it now. Since they were custom cut they’ll probably be worth nothing to you when you leave. I’d mention it in an offhand way, nothing demanding. Something like “I had to buy some window treatments which I’m willing/planning to leave behind when I move. I would appreciate some consideration from you in return.’

You are paying for your own comfort. The landlord is NOT responsible for window coverings. You can take them with you when you leave or offer them to the landlord at a reduced (used) price.

Since you rented the property without window coverings, then it was up to you to provide them if you want. You can take them down when you leave and fix the holes, or just ask the landlord if they want you to leave them there. What will you do with them?
I agree with another poster that your landlord probably should have installed them, but they didn’t. If it was important to you to have window coverings that you didn’t have to pay for, you should have rented a house that came with them.
