need advice on curtains/blinds for my living room?
Mo asked:
the room is rectangluar with white walls and white carpet!
two sides of the room have windows stretching from end to end and meet at the corner. the window frames are aluminum and they could slide one way or the other ie. like sliding balcony doors!

how can i cover those windows for privacy at night!
should i use curtains alone…or with window shades or blinds!
keep in mind that am a modernist/minimalist who prefers cool neutral colors (shades of brown, grey, black). furniture will be of modern design. some elements of dark wood and chrome. will be incorporated.
thank you very much.

Blinds are good if you need privacy and/or light control. If not think about white sheets hung from a rod .

Anything you use will cost you (since you have so much to cover) but custom blinds will be the most expensive option. I would do this, since you’re a minimalist: use simple rods in chrome and pick simple tab-top or grommetted curtains in something other than white that will complment your decor–like black or browns, but not creams if you have white walls and white carpet. Ikea has a lot of great modern, minimalist designs:. Or try Pier One. I have also seen curtains hung on wire, which is ultra minimalist, but I’ve not done this myself, so I’m not sure how it is done. Lots of home magazines, like Cottage Living, Dwell, and others have great ideas for things like this. Go to your local big-box bookstore (like a Barnes & Noble or Borders or Books-a-Million) and look through their magazines.

Vertical blinds are best for rooms with wide windows. They make them now in vinyl (PVC) or fabric, which do a pretty good job of replacing curtains or drapes. The link below claims to have over 175 colors and patters so there should be something there to fit your taste.
