Cleaning Window Blinds?

Melissa C asked:

I am moving out of my apartment on friday and I need to clean the blinds. I tried wiping them with a damp cloth and it just smeared the dirt. Does anyone know a better way to do this. I also am afrade to take them down because I dont know how.

Clean them with spray and wash, it does a great job! spray it, let it set, have a bucket of warm water and a rag and clean them, it will work easy !

I usually take them down ( theres a slide on cover that keeps them in place- no tools necessary) and soak them in a bathtub with a 1/4 cup bleach and enough water (hot) to cover the blinds after soaking for 15-30 min i take a washrag and wipe them side to side. hang in bathroom to dry for an hour or two.

Just a damp cloth will be fine.

It would be a lot easier to take them down and soak them in the tub in hot water and a cup of bleach, rinse well, then hang to drip dry or dry them with a thick towel…

at both ends of each blind, on the top it looks like they are attached inside of a small box. The front of this box lifts up. Once both boxes on the ends are in the up position you can lift the blinds out. Suggest you first pull the blinds all the way up.

Go to bathtub filled with soap, bleach, and hot water. Not only will the slats come clean, but the cording as well.

For the future…avoid cleaning them at the end. I put my down, turn them down and vacuum them, then turn them up and vacuum, them. every coupla months outta do it.

You can also pull them up and leave them in this position, using curtains instead.

I would spray a degreaser on them outside, let them soak a bit. Wipe them down with a large sponge and rinse with a high pressure hose. Then, hang to dry. My husband suggests taking them to a car wash bay, use pressure hose and lay out or hang to dry. Good Luck…
